My St. Nicholas Day Tradition…

Ok friends, this year I am UEBER late in posting this, so those of you who wish to join in the festivities with me will have very little time to find this stuff. Not all of you will like it. This is certainly not Budweiser or anything like the yellow stuff that most people call beer. But it is so gooooooooooooooooood!

This tradition started in 2005. That year for my birthday a friend gave me a bottle of Sammichlaus Bier. The name Sammichlaus Bier in Austrian German literally means “St. Nicholas Beer.” It is an Austrian beer that is only brewed one day a year, Dec. 6th. It takes 10 months to ferment and is a whopping 14.9% alcohol. It is also pretty pricey, ranging from $6-$10 per bottle, depending on where you get it. Like most really high gravity beers, it ages very well. I decided that year that I would save the Sammichlaus Beer for Dec 6th. The beer is a one of a kind experience and if you can get a bottle, I highly recommend you do so!

So I ask everyone to join in with me on Dec. 6th in having a Sammichlaus Bier in honor of St. Nicholas! Please pass this note on to your friends!

Probst!

PS. If you don’t have the ability to run out and get a Sammichlaus Bier today, perhaps you will consider joining me in having one on the Old Calendar Feast of St. Nicholas, on December 19th!
