Behind the Scenes of Hope and Olivia’s Photoshoot with Doc Fish’s Baby Grand Piano
This is what the behind the scenes of a model photo shoot often looks like. Most of the time people only see the clean, finished photos. Rarely do you get a glimpse into everything else that is happening. There is quite a bit that goes on during some photo shoots. Make up artists are often there doing make up. Hope is a professional make up artist, so she took care of the make up for both herself and Olivia. Sometimes there are also hair dressers there for the models hair. Often there are stylists at the shoot supplying clothing. On this occasion the only stylist present was Linda, who supplied the jewelry for the models to wear. I often joke that the photographer has the easiest job during the photo shoot.
This is what most people see when they see photos from a photo shoot. A nice clean location with beautiful two beautiful models, Olivia (brunette) and Hope (redhead).
Compared to the models, I really don’t bring that much gear. The two black Pelican hard cases which I carry my cameras and lenses in with the cameras sitting on top of them as well as the black bag to the left of hard cases are mine. There is a tripod, three flashes and two light stands. The rest belongs to the models. Clothes, more clothes and a whole lot of shoes.
One of these days I am going to take a photo of a model with all of her bags of clothes and shoes before the photo shoot.
We had a jewelry stylist with us for this shoot, so she brought her own large bag of jewelry for Hope and Olivia to wear during the shoot.
And then there is the bathroom where the make up is done. This particular bathroom actually looks pretty neat and tidy compared to some large group shoots or fashion shows where there is literally make up every where and the area where it is being done can look rather untidy. Our gracious host, Dr. Fishman was amazed when he saw how much gear each of us brought with us to the shoot. It was not just me bringing a camera and two women showing up with a bit of clothing to shoot at his baby grand piano. There is a lot that goes on behind the scenes to make a shoot successful. Dr. Fishman is a musician and in spite of his not feeling all that well the day of the shoot, he pulled out his guitar and entertained us during the shoot. At one point he was singing “Michael Goltz’s redhead club is in the house!” We had a lot of fun!
I love photos like this. I had Linda the jewelry rep use my cell phone to take a behind the scenes photo of me photographing Oliva. One of these days I will publish a book of all of my photos of behind the scenes shots as well as people taking selfies during photo shoots.
A cell phone photo taken by Linda while I was photographing Olivia (left) and Hope (right). I was to the right of this photo taking photos and had a light stand to my right as well. I brought two light stands in case I wanted to have a three light set up, but decided that simply having one flash on camera and another on a light stand provided plenty of lighting for the shoot.
Two of the finished photos.
I would not have been a good guest if I didn’t take the time to get some great photos of our host playing his piano!
Me with my beautiful models, Olivia and Hope.
