Basking

My good friend Dr. Mark Gibbs is a philosophy professor and a fellow Eastern Orthodox Christian, like I am. Gibby as I affectionately call him has a personal philosophy which he refers to as “basking”. Basking is short for “basking in the rays of the uncreated light of Christ.” Basking is soaking in God’s unconditional love. Gibby and I once belonged to an online forum called “TAW” and he would post rules for basking from time to time on there.

Rules for basking, in no specific order and definitely not a complete list:

  1. When basking always thank God for the opportunity to bask.
  2. When basking never question why you are basking.
  3. When basking always share the ability to bask with others.
  4. Always remember what it feels like to bask for future reference during less warm and bright times.
  5. Always look for the opportunity to help others bask.
  6. Never be jealous of others who are basking.
  7. Always rejoice when you see others basking.
  8. Always share the joy of your basking with others and help them bask.
  9. When basking smile and remember that God loves you.
  10. Always remember God is the author of your basking, you are simply experiencing the blessing of basking.
  11. God is good and wants you to bask in the rays of his love.

Glory to thee, o Lord! Glory to thee!
